New York Theaters & Performing Arts

For last minute discounted tickets (have several alternatives in mind as this is not a sure thing ), try the Tkts booth at 47 Street and Times Square. The hours are:

    Mon-Sat 3-8 p.m.
    Wed, Sat 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. (for matinee tix)
    Sun 11 a.m.- 7 p.m.
    * Cash and traveler's checks only.

If you're willing to stand for the entire performance, some shows sell SRO tickets for approximately $25. Go to the box office the day of the performance. Most open around noon.

Some current Broadway plays:

Ave. Q - John Golden Theatre, 252 West 45 Street (bet Broadway and 8th Ave) 212-239-6200

Very innovative, and funny show with puppets and humans. (hard to separate them sometimes.) Won the 2004 Tony for Best Original Score, Best Book, and Best Musical. It's about college graduates trying to figure out what to do next.

Dirty Rotten Scoundrals - Imperial Theatre, 249 West 45 Street (between Broadway and 8th Avenue) 212-239-6200

Brand new show about the art of the "con". Based on the Michael Caine/Steve Martin movie. Friends have told me this show is really funny with lots of "low brow" gags.

Monty Python's Spamalot - Shubert Theatre- 225 West 44 Street (betw Broadway and 8th Avenue) 212-239-6200

Good luck getting tickets though perhaps if you're willing to split up and go "onsies" you might get seats. This one is also making everyone laugh.

Wicked - Gershwin Theatre, 222 West 51 Street (betw Broadway and 8th Ave.) 212-307-4100

You will never be able to watch "The Wizard of Oz" in the same light. Great sets - fun story - one that explains the "whys" in "The Wizard of Oz".

Off Broadway:

For those extending their stay and would like to be "wowed", we suggest:

"Monday Night Magic" at The St. Clements Theatre - 423 West 46 Street (betw 9th and 10th Avenue).. 718-575-1345

This is a great alternative activity as Broadway is dark on Mondays. Be prepared to keep saying "how did they do that?" (ask Aviva and Liz what they thought of the show.)
